The final retaining dam will form the future coastline.

After installing bulkheads in the tunnel tubes, the northernmost part of the excavation pit for the German tunnel portal at Puttgarden has been flooded at the end of August 2024. Since the beginning of September 2024, the outer retaining dyke, which previously surrounded the northernmost area of the excavation pit and allowed work to be carried out in the dry, has been removed.
