A milestone in the decarbonization of cement production

SCHWENK Launches First CapsolGo® Demonstration Campaign in Lithuania

13. January 2025

SCHWENK has launched the first CapsolGo® demonstration campaign at the Akmenės cement plant in Lithuania. With this innovative facility, the company is testing the feasibility of CO2 capture on an industrial scale using hot potassium carbonate (HPC) technology, thereby providing a significant boost toward sustainable cement production.

The campaign is part of SCHWENK’s comprehensive efforts to decarbonize the cement industry. The goal is to significantly reduce CO2 emissions while enabling more environmentally friendly production. The data collected during the demonstration phase provides valuable insights into Capsol’s end-of-pipe capture technology, thereby making an important contribution to the further development of sustainable solutions in the industry.

Once testing in Lithuania is complete, the CapsolGo® unit will be relocated to the Brocēni cement plant in Latvia. There, SCHWENK will continue to test the technology based on a feasibility study that has already been conducted.

With this first campaign in Lithuania, SCHWENK is underscoring its role as a driver of innovation in the cement industry—in line with its new slogan: SUSTAINABILITY THAT WORKS.
