Cements with reduced clinker content

In line with our commitment to “SUSTAINABILITY THAT WORKS.”, we offer a wide range of products with enhanced sustainability characteristics. These advances are achieved primarily by reducing the clinker content in cement through the use of alternative constituent materials. Discover our range of low-clinker products.

Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)

EPDs with good GWP values are available for our cements and selected concretes. EPDs, or Environmental Product Declarations, are standardised documents that present the environmental impact of a product throughout its entire life cycle in a transparent and comparable manner.

CSC certification

Our German cement plants and many of our companies have been awarded CSC certification. The value of the CSC certificate lies primarily in its recognition by international sustainability assessment systems for buildings. These systems include BREEAM, LEED and DGNB, which recognise the CSC certificate.

CI4C

The CI4C consortium is building the first research and development facility that almost completely captures CO2 from the production process. This is a crucial step toward more climate-friendly cement production.

meca-clay

Together with the plant manufacturer thyssenkrupp Polysius, we have developed the meca-clay technology for the production of reactive pozzolanic cement additives through the purely mechanical activation of clays. This enables all types of clays to be converted into highly reactive cement additives without the use of fossil fuels —using only electrical grinding energy and resulting in reduced CO2 emissions from the raw material.
