WHAT’S NEW
AT SCHWENK

First milestone for the world’s first fully electric meca-clay plant.

30. April 2025

The foundation for our meca-clay pilot plant was completed four months ahead of schedule. This marks a decisive step toward the construction of the world’s first facility for the CO₂-free activation of clay raw materials.

Thanks to favorable weather conditions and close cooperation with our project partners, construction work has been significantly accelerated. Installation of the plant’s technical systems will begin as early as June 2025. The plant is scheduled to go into operation in the spring of 2026.

For the first time, the new meca-clay technology makes it possible to process clay materials into highly reactive, cement-compatible additives using only electrical energy. Specifically, up to 70% of the thermal CO emissions typically generated during the drying and calcination of clays can be avoided by using electrical energy.

This makes the technology not only a forward-looking solution for building materials production, but also a key component in achieving our climate goals across the entire value chain. This is fully in line with our slogan: SUSTAINABILITY THAT WORKS.

The project’s success to date is due in no small part to the dedicated efforts of our entire team. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved who made this progress possible.
